Monthly Meetings
7:30 PM on the 2nd Tuesday of each month (except January) at La Trobe University’s Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary.
Hatchery
NFA (Victoria) has been running a native fish hatchery for a number of years and has recently moved into a new Hatchery building courtesy La Trobe University, located at La Trobe University’s Nangak Tamboree Wildlife Sanctuary in Bundoora. The hatchery is setup to breed small bodied native fish plus has a number of display tanks. We have Murray Cod, Trout Cod, Australian Bass, Golden Perch (Yellow Belly), Macquarie Perch, Murray River Rainbow fish, Southern Pygmy Perch, common Galaxiids and more. We feed the fish every day. See the Hatchery Update page for current Hatchery activities.
Opportunities for members in the hatchery
2 members per shift is the ideal as it is best to have another NFA member with you for safety and getting through the aquarium maintenance faster and more time to watch our fish develop. They all have different personalities.
No experience is required, we will show you everything. We are always looking for better ways of working.
Hatchery Working Bees
For your diary: 1st Sunday after the 2nd Tuesday of each month (except January) from ~9:30 AM to Midday, we have a bbq at the end. We send out a message on Facebook and email when it is on.
